Estate Planning That Fits Your Needs

Estate planning isn’t only for wealthy people. If you’ve got anyone depending on you – kids, partners, parents, family members – you want to know that they’re supported in case you're no longer there.

It’s easy to get paralyzed about taking the steps to protect them in case of a family tragedy. But it’s also easy to get help setting things up right. I am dedicated to helping working and middle class families answer the difficult questions, get their legal and financial affairs in order, and feel the relief and joy of finally checking this project off their list.

A good, comprehensive estate plan will help your survivors avoid legal delays and expenses. It can also help ensure that your children are cared for according to your wishes, that your property is protected, and that your preferences are followed if you are incapacitated.

I focus on getting to know you, your family, and your values, then providing detailed and dependable answers to your questions. I prepare Wills, Living Trusts, Powers of Attorney, and Living Wills/Advanced Healthcare Directives. In addition to preparing these documents, I can help you decide on the proper beneficiary designations for your life insurance and your investment, bank, and retirement accounts. Throughout the process I am responsive to your needs and attentive to your values. Download information about my estate planning process, fees, and intake process here.

I serve residents of Washington D.C. and also offer income tax planning to help you structure your financial life in a way that lets you benefit from all of the tax deductions, exclusions, and credits available to you.

Steps of My Estate Planning Process

Step 1: Review this form and take a first stab at answering all the questions. Email your completed form and any questions to me to get my price quote and my initial thoughts. Depending on the complexity of your wishes, the price will usually be $500, $1,000, or $2,000 per couple.

Step 2: If you wish to proceed,  e-sign a representation agreement with me and then, pay my fee on the website you’ll be redirected to after signing.

Step 3. I draft your documents and send them to you for review. You comment on and track proposed changes to in Word or Google Docs. I’m happy to make any changes you request within 30 days for no additional charge.  I’ll also share a video walking you through the typical documents.

Step 4: You sign your documents with two impartial witnesses, send scans of them to me for review, and save the originals in a safe place. Remember that if you store your original documents in a safe deposit box, you need to ensure others can access it if you are incapacitated. A safe place in your home or the home of your potential executor is usually easier.

If you have other legal and financial questions, I may be able to help.  Just ask and I'll point you in the right direction.
